On Wednesday, January 2, 2019, the young ladies at L.A. County Probation system’s only all-girls residential facility, Camp Scott, received a surprise visit from our founder, Tiffany Haddish, and her team members Elizabeth Kenny, Jackie Knobbe, and Selena Martin. Tiffany spent hours speaking about her personal experiences growing up in the foster care system and overcoming homelessness.
You might be asking yourself what this has to do with foster care. Over 85% of young people within probation have been involved with the child welfare system, whether it be for foster care placement or allegations of abuse and neglect. Foster care is an epidemic that must be tackled with compassion and resources because children only know what they are exposed to. That day, Tiffany exposed them to valuable life lessons she learned navigating through the system and from a message of hope and resilience because she overcame a similar journey filled with the trauma and pain that comes with a childhood of instability.
